Hello friends!
Like many people, I can often get distracted by the new shiny things. I see someone talking about some amazing homeschool resource or product and I think oh, that will make our homeschool better, and I’ve come to realize, that keeping things simple works the best for us.
For instance, my eleven-year-old is very hands on and likes to take things apart and find out how they work, I wouldn’t be surprised if he becomes a mechanic or something related in the future. This year I got distracted by curriculum that was making him diagram sentences and do fairly intense grammar, and it took me awhile to realize, this was just not working, he was starting to dread working on school. Then this week I had a super simple alternative idea: Mad Libs. He doesn’t need to be diagraming sentences, he just needs the grammar basics cemented in and right now we’re covering the parts of speech through Mad Libs, simple and fun. Homeschool win!
BOOK RECOMMENDATION CORNER
You can’t get away from me without at least one book recommendation, today I’m going to recommend our current read aloud: The Phantom Tollbooth. We actually started this book before we moved (so last spring) and we were loving it but our routine got all out of whack and we stopped. Fast forward eight months and we’ve decided to start the book over and it’s a hit all over again!
RESOURCE RECOMMENDATION
I thought I’d start a section here where I share a homeschool resource we love. And we’re going to kick things off with a power horse. You know when you buy a piece of tech and it’s a lemon? Well, whatever the complete opposite of a lemon is has been our experience with this speaker. We’ve had it for years, often have it going daily for our audiobooks and it only needs to be charged once or twice a year. Needless to say, we’ve gotten our moneys worth out of it! If you are in the market for a good speaker, I can’t recommend this one enough!
YOUTUBE
I’ve share two new videos recently on YouTube in the last little bit. One is my eleven-year-old sharing his favorite books, it’s a good mix of novels and graphic novels.
And the other is a pretty comprehensive review of The Good and The Beautiful, my thoughts, the pros and cons and what we’re doing next.
That’s all from me for this week, I would love to hear some ways you keep things simple in your homeschool!

We found Mad Libs this week too! My 8 and 10 year old love it and don’t realize they are learning 😉
