My 14 ( very soon to be 15 year old) daughter has enjoyed The Martian by Andy Weir, The Mona Lisa Vanishes by Nicholas Day,
Heavens to Betsy by Maud Hart Lovelace,
Olivetti by Allie Millington,
The Last Cuentista, Ranger’s Apprentice,
Words on Fire, Amari and the Night Brothers, The First State of Being, Keeper of the Lost Cities, A Christmas Carol, The Parker Inheritance and Treasure Island
The First State of Being by Erin Entrada Kelly, Masterminds by Gordon Korman
Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger, Ferris by Kate DiCamillo,
Bob by Rebecca Stead , Ra the Mighty Cat Detective, Diary of a Wimpy Kid Hot Mess, Dragons in a Bag by Zetta Elliott, The Magicians Nephew by C.S. Lewis and The Last Battle by CS Lewis
We just read “Bob” by the same authors as “The Lost Library”. My 8 year old enjoyed it most but my 10 year old and myself liked it too. Some of our favorites are: The Wild Robot, Rascal, Owls in the Family, Adventure with Waffles, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, The Trumpet of the Swan (audiobook), Little House in the Big Woods, The Children of Noisy Village, Lady Lollipop, and Heartwood Hotel.
Oh have you read The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place: Book I: The Mysterious Howling (6 books)
I cannot decide if they are better read with the eyes (your 14 year old would love the word play I’m sure) or the audio (performance is outstanding - last book or two a little challenging/harder to listen to because the narrator passed away☹️)
Mystery, humor and a wee bit of magic❤️ oh and the rabbit trail of learning🥰❤️🥰 as the main character is the governess ❤️❤️
Wild Robot & the Little House books❤️💗❤️
Another suggestion The Castle in the Attic (spoiler the main character shrinks down and goes on a quest with the cursed castle world)
Chocolate Touch - super short & funny
Hero’s Now & Then: Amy Carmichael; Gladys Aylward (missionary biographies that were inspiring, a bit of tears but not too heavy because written for kids)

We’re reading Keeper of the Lost Cities and the City of Ember series and loving them. 😊

Added The Lost Library to my TBR
We did the first one YEARS ago but never continued the series, we should do a re-read and continue the series soon!
I just finished reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to the 5 & 7 year old. They LOVED it.
Next up is The Hobbit. It's slower going than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but they seem to be enjoying it so far, and so am I :)
